virtual worlds

I was lured back into Metaplace by the invitation to "create a New You"!  More body shopping - this seems to be common "cultural" practice across virtual worlds. Sadly, though, it seems like everything affordable is gray!  Once again I am in danger of being identified as a noob.

Someone did teach me how to "meep" another person.  It is a way to earn gold and I guess to promote socialization...

I did some exploring this weekend, though I am having trouble figuring out how to find things in this space (is there a master map?).  I took some screenshots of interesting places.

Ephemeral, in one of the screen shots below, features a movie made in Second Life, that you watch by clicking on a TV set within Metaplace. Talk about layers of virtuality! 

I created an account in Metaplace a while ago, when it first opened up to beta users.  I haven't been there recently, but Yoonhee got me interested in visiting it again.

Here I am experimenting with the best way to upload images for you all to view. The attached pdf file will open up in a new window. It's a screenshot of me and my house, with an editing tool menu open on the right.

I'm going to do some journalling here too about my forays into virtual worlds this semester.  The avatar that I am using for my profile is one that I created a few years ago in Second Life. Actually, I bought her, in a "body shop."  I had been running around SL for quite a while with one of the very simple avatars that you used to get when you first entered the world. Eventually someone pointed out that I "looked new" but wasn't new (given my 'birthdate' in SL).
